Innovation Department discovery sessions with twenty-five departments surfaced the same problems I had been building against on Field Service with the WorkPro team. Those patterns now shape how AI Engineering decides what is worth building.

James spent his internship building the WorkPro MCP, a multi-server TypeScript system connecting AI agents to Fleet, Field Service and Operations data. It is now live. The harder lesson was that a tool can be technically impressive and still not be useful, which is why he spent as much time talking to the people who would use it as building it.

Four active builds, led by a WorkPro connector that went live August 12. Four sequenced behind them in a deliberate dependency chain: stocking analysis, work order closeout, shop estimates, and BELA commitment tracking. The August 11 kickoff review with Brian Noga added facilities, safety, and customer self service to intake.

Investors expect an Anthropic IPO in October at 2 trillion dollars or more, the largest debut ever. Claude text now carries an invisible watermark under EU transparency rules. The MCP standard behind the WorkPro connector went stateless and its directory passed 950 connectors. Cowork reached mobile and web, and Sonnet 5 introductory pricing is permanent.
GPT Garage
GPT-5.6 Sol and Luna became the ChatGPT defaults on August 6. The free tier gained unlimited texts and ads expanded to five more countries, while free accounts train models by default, which is the whole case for the account rule. ChatGPT Enterprise individual app sync ended August 14, the DALL·E GPT retires August 30, and an internal OpenAI model solved ten open math problems for about 2,000 dollars.
This Month in Open Source
Nvidia's Nemotron 3.5 Lightning is a real open release sized for desktop hardware. Meta's Muse Spark 1.2 is API only despite the framing, and DeepSeek-V4-Flash arrived under MIT. Each one gets read against the department's bench criteria, because the model on our Mac mini is replaceable and jobs like categorizing 200,000 inspection PDFs have a dollar answer.
